Our story began in the year 1994 when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad birthed the idea of starting a second national car project, hot on the heels of the successful launch of Proton in 1983. Spurred by the “Look East Policy” led by Tun Dr Mahathir, Daihatsu became a preferred brand to champion with its small, compact cars that prospered in the Kei-car category in Japan. Malaysia’s second car project was to be the pioneers of the local Kei-car market.
This dream was brought to life when Y Bhg Dato’Abdul Rahim Abdul Halim and his partners Tan Sri Ahmad Azizzuddin, Dato’ Yap Lim Sin and Mr Wong Leng Thien came together to establish DMM Sales Sdn Bhd, also known as Daihatsu Mitsui Medbumikamara in correspond to earlier idea of having local kei-car which is based on the Daihatsu products.
By 20 January 1995, DMM Sales Sdn Bhd had been incorporated as a subsidiary of Daihatsu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. – A mega-project on its accord, it even had a special code name “M2” that has cemented its legacy as being the name of our headquarters in Shah Alam today.
As of current times, DMMS holds 10% of Perodua’s shares and cited as “The Largest Perodua Dealer In Malaysia.” With 17 sales outlets, 13 aftersales outlets and 2 Body & Paint outlets throughout Malaysia, DMMS employs more than 300 workers who are trained and equipped to readily cater to the needs of our valued customers.
